It's going to be a White Christmas. The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for much of North Georgia, including Hall County.
The National Weather Service now predicts two to four inches of snow is possibly by Sunday morning. A mix of snow, sleet and snow is falling across the region right now.
Up to 4 inches of snow is possible in the mountains, and 2 to 4 inches is possible anywhere north of a line from Rome to Gainesville.
The precipitation is expected to end by 1 p.m. Sunday when temperatures rise, and any accumulations will likely melt, said forecaster Robert Garcia of the National Weather Service Peachtree office.
However, it's possible that remaining moisture could re-freeze that night, as temperatures are expected to drop into the low 20s, he added. So travel on Sunday morning, before temperatures rise, could prove tricky.
Snow on Christmas Day is a rare occurrence. The last time snow was seen on Christmas in the Atlanta are was in 1993, when there was a trace.
The last measurable snow was back almost 130 years ago, when nearly a third of an inch lay on the ground.
