The Great Recession and the bursting of a housing bubble flooded the rental market with new tenants over the last decade. Investment firms saw incredible demand from renters, prompting them to buy up multifamily properties in communities across the country. And this demand, far outpacing available supply, has resulted in an affordable housing crisis in the private rental market.
