An 85-year-old violin teacher is in jail following an investigation into whether he used his business, Oxford Academy of Classical Studies, to develop an inappropriate relationship with a student.

Leon Messerlian of Clermont is charged with child molestation, sexual battery and enticing a child for indecent purposes, according to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.

Messerlian has been under investigation since a student came forward with the allegations.

“The child has been attending sessions with Messerlian since (the child) was 7 years old,” Hall County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Deputy Nicole Bailes wrote in an email.

According to the warrants, Messerlian is accused of enticing a child “to a bathroom within his music studio for the purpose of child molestation and indecent acts…” The dates listed on the warrant span from Feb. 1, 2010, to July 17 of this year.

Warrants were obtained July 29. Messerlian has no bond and is set for a committal hearing at 9 a.m. Aug. 14, according to the sheriff’s office.
