Vince Evans won a tight four-person race to the Lula City Council on Tuesday.

Evans earned 32 percent of the vote, beating out Elizabeth Chambers by seven votes among the 178 cast. Felton C. Wood Jr. and Larry Shuler trailed

Who is he: Vince Evans is married and has a son and stepdaughter. He is retired.

How he reacted: “I’m pleased and I appreciate the folks who got out and voted for me. I also thank the other three people who ran.”

On the issues: Evans has said he would like to see “fair and responsive government for all,” as well as more small industry and businesses in Lula.

What’s next: Evans replaces incumbent Larry Shuler and starts his first four-year term Jan. 1.
