Vehicles damaged over the weekend in downtown Gainesville
Police say cases seem to be related
At least eight cars were damaged this weekend as they were parked in downtown Gainesville. The police said some of the cases are related as they were damaged in the same way and at the same time.

Multiple cars parked in downtown Gainesville over the weekend were damaged by an unidentified suspect, according to the Gainesville Police Department.

Gainesville Police Sgt. Kevin Holbrook said roofs and hoods were primarily damaged, describing the destruction as “caved in.” Cost of the damage was valued up to $10,000 on one vehicle.

Holbrook said the cases “seem to be related at this point.”

Of the eight reported cases, five of them happened in the same area and time frame — between Friday afternoon and Saturday morning.

One case was reported Friday at 301 Main St., near the downtown parking deck. Five more were reported Saturday in downtown Gainesville. Three of the cases were reported along Green Street and another on Washington Street.

Jason Bohannon’s said his car was damaged between 10 p.m. Friday and 8:20 a.m. Saturday. His girlfriend’s car also was damaged overnight.
