University of Georgia student Roman Guerrero, a poultry science major from Gainesville, was awarded the highly competitive Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship to help fund his international studies for 21 days in France this May.
He is one of five students from the University of Georgia — and 1,000 students nationally — to receive the scholarship for the summer 2018 academic term.
The scholarship awards students up to $5,000 to apply toward their study abroad or internship program costs. The program aims to diversify the students who study and intern abroad and the countries and regions where they go.
He plans to use this scholarship to study Western European agricultural systems in Toulouse, France, while engaging in a service-learning experience with children in a nearby township.
Roman says that his day “will consist of classes in the morning and field trips that will correlate with class in the afternoon.”
