Two big-name markets providing the community with new pharmacies, fresh groceries and household merchandise will open at the start of the new year.

The two Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market stores on Thompson Bridge and Browns Bridge roads are both on schedule for completion in early 2015. Hiring at both stores is well underway, according to the store managers.

“Hiring is going well,” said Jeff Stover, store manager of the Thompson Bridge location. “We’re still accepting walk-in applications and we have computers set up at our hiring center for people who don’t have access to the Internet. They can do it here or they can apply online at home.”

Employees at the Thompson Bridge market will begin work in December to prepare the store for its tentative opening the first week of January.

Johnny Harris, store manager of the Browns Bridge Road location, said it will open Jan. 28. It has nearly 85 percent of is staff hired and is still accepting applications.

“We’re doing very well,” Harris said. “We’re just starting our orientations over the next two weeks and actually had our first orientation Thursday.”

Stover and Harris said construction at both locations is on schedule, but they’re wary of inclement winter weather.

“I actually just went to the store and they’ve got the gas stations up,” Harris said. “They’re finishing the tanks still, but the actual kiosks are up. And they’re in the process of installing all the freezers and coolers inside the store.”

Those interested in full-time or part-time employment can apply to either location. The Thompson Bridge market will participate in a job fair at the Georgia Department of Labor from 1-4 p.m. Dec. 4. The Browns Bridge location has participated in job fairs as well, but is still accepting applications at its hiring center at 250 John W. Morrow Parkway, Suite 116.

The temporary Thompson Bridge hiring center is at 1062 Thompson Bridge Road, Suite A2.

Both store managers said they are excited about the services they will soon offer the community.

“I’m excited,” Stover said. “I’m excited for the community. I’ve got a lot of things that I don’t want to tell yet, but there are a lot of things I want to do for the community that will be great for the city of Gainesville and Hall County.”
