Two Hall judges, attorney nominated for state Supreme Court vacancy

Two Hall County judges and one local attorney were on the list of nominees submitted for the Supreme Court of Georgia vacancy, according to a list of nominees released to The Times on Tuesday.

Superior Court Judge Jason Deal, State Court Judge John Breakfield and attorney Inez Grant were among the 101 nominees on the list.

The Judicial Nominating Commission issued the notice for nominations June 15 following the retirement of Chief Justice P. Harris Hines “and for any additional vacancies that may occur this year.”

Those nominated must then return an application package to the commission on or before July 13. The commission will then meet to interview applicants after July 23 at the State Bar of Georgia in Atlanta.

“The Commission will select and recommend to (Gov. Nathan Deal) from among those persons found to be ‘qualified’ a short list of persons for these positions,” according to the commission’s notice.
