If you’ve been wondering about something in your community, Ask The Times is your place to get answers. The following question was submitted by a reader and answered through the efforts of our news staff.

With the widening of Spout Springs Road, is there a way to be able to check with the DOT on daily construction plans/lane closures to help me decide which way I will need to take to get places?

The Georgia Department of Transportation provides road updates as they occur but doesn’t have a service that provides daily updates, said Brandon Kirby, the DOT’s district engineer.

“We also do not have a website where daily construction activities are posted for readers,” he said.

However, the DOT reports key updates, such as lane closures, on its social media accounts, such as Twitter and Facebook. Residents can get updates by following those sites.

Also, the DOT has a service known as Rave that sends emergency communications and other important information via text message and email. Rave doesn’t charge a fee for the service.
