A 3-year-old boy found unresponsive in a residential swimming pool Friday night has died, Hall County Sheriff's Col. Jeff Strickland said this morning.

Deputies and fire department first responders were called to the East Hall home of John and Stephanie McConnell in the 4600 block of Miller Lake Road about 8 p.m. Friday.

Strickland said several people were at the home for a family function and other children found the child, John Michael McConnell, floating in the in-ground pool.

It was estimated that the toddler had been in the pool 5-10 minutes, Strickland said.

Emergency medical technicians attempted resuscitation. The child then was airlifted to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite.

A sheriff's investigation is under way. The results "will be presented to the Hall County district attorney and the Hall County Child Fatality Review Board," Strickland said.

"The preliminary investigation indicates that the death was accidental with no criminal intent suspected," he added.
