A man died Thursday afternoon after the motorcycle he and a female passenger were riding collided with a van on Thompson Bridge Road near Kroger in Gainesville.

Hall County Fire Chief David Kimbrell said both motorcycle riders were taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center where the man was pronounced dead and the woman remains in serious condition.

The driver of the van was not injured and the identities of those involved are being withheld pending notification of family members.

Both northbound lanes were shut down for a short time but have since reopened.

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the wreck.
