The Local Agenda: Hall, Gainesville offices to close for holidays

Hall County’s administrative offices, courts and community centers will be closed Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

The landfill and recycling center will also be closed those days. Compactor sites will be closed Christmas Day only.

Essential public safety and public works personnel will continue service as usual during the holidays. Many county services are always available online at

Gainesville government administrative offices will close at noon Christmas Eve and remain closed Thursday and Friday. 

Recycling will be picked up on Wednesday, but there will be no recycling or garbage collection on Thursday or Friday.

Administrative offices will also be closed New Year’s Day, and no garbage or recycling service will be available on the holiday. Normal services will resume Jan. 2.

Gainesville Connection and Dial-A-Ride services will be unavailable Dec. 24-26, as well as Jan. 1.

Events announced for Deal’s inaugural

The inaugural committee of Gov. Nathan Deal has announced a statewide volunteer day for Jan. 10. First lady Sandra Deal launched the volunteer day, known as With A Servant’s Heart, in 2011 as part of the governor’s first inaugural.

Meanwhile, inaugural events on Jan. 12 will include a prayer service at 9 a.m. at Mount Paran Church in Atlanta and a swearing-in ceremony at 2 p.m. on Liberty Plaza in downtown Atlanta across from the Capitol.
