The Guest House's hobby shop stirs emotions

David McNeilly walks toward the hobby shop at The Guest House, which the nonprofit day care for the elderly planned to move to its new location on Oak Street. The Gainesville Housing Authority, owner of the property at Tower Heights Road that currently houses the organization, maintains it owns the hobby shop since it was understood to be in-kind rent payment. The trailer is in place to block the move of the building.
Emotions are high in an ongoing dispute between The Guest House, a nonprofit adult day care facility, and the Gainesville Housing Authority, which owns the property where the nonprofit has been housed since the 1980s. The authority served the nonprofit an eviction notice late last year, and the organization is now set to move this weekend to a building on Oak Street. But the latest point of contention is a small outbuilding that was built by West Hall High School students and given to The Guest House for use as a hobby shop in 2001.
