Georgia State Patrol officials have identified Nathaniel Davison, 16, as the driver of the vehicle that struck a tree Wednesday night on Dawsonville Highway near Sardis Road.

Davison was airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center with serious but nonfatal injuries after the accident.

State patrol officials said he was driving a 2006 Mini Cooper when he drove off the right shoulder and struck a guard rail and tree at 8:41 p.m.

Earlier reports also stated the vehicle overturned.

Investigators aren't sure why the vehicle left the roadway but said alcohol was not a factor.

The accident remains under investigation and citations may be filed at a later date, according to state patrol officials.
