Teen charged with string of burglaries

A Gainesville 15-year-old has been charged in a string of burglaries Monday night, according to a Wednesday news release.

Gainesville Police responded to a shopping center at 425 Atlanta Highway at 3:45 a.m., according to the police report.

Upon arrival, they found broken windows at La Flor De Jalisco No. 2, Mexico Transfers Inc., Coin Laundry, Tortas Tacos and a Tortas Tacos truck.

La Flor De Jalisco surveillance cameras showed an individual wearing a gray jacket, tight jeans and a white belt break the store door with a hammer, according to the report.

After entering the building, the individual attempted to open several cash registers. He was unsuccessful but severely damaged them with the hammer.

Cash registers also were damaged at several of the other stores and money was reported stolen.

Police also reported collecting fingerprints and blood samples from the scene for analysis.

The suspect has been charged with three counts of burglary and one count each of entering auto to steal and criminal damage.
