Gainesville Police arrested a Gainesville teen Thursday who is accused of robbing a local taxi driver.

Renardo Shonice Hawkins, 17, was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of armed robbery.

Police responded about 4 p.m. to Ridgecrest Apartments in reference to an armed robbery.

Kevin Holbrook, public information officer for the Gainesville Police Department, said Hawkins was a taxi customer when he pulled a handgun on the driver and demanded money.

"He got in the car and at that point is when he pulled out the gun and demanded money from the cab driver," he said.

After obtaining the money, Hawkins exited the taxi and ran, police said. The taxi driver was able to provide police with a good description of the suspect, who was located inside the apartment complex shortly after police responded.

Hawkins is being held the Hall County Jail.
