Robyn Hummer has been a supporter of West Hall High School football even before her sons went to school there.
"I’ve been a football fan my whole life," she said.
"It started when I was 8 years old watching Herschel Walker play for the Georgia Bulldogs.
"I watched West Hall football before the boys were even playing."
But now that Jacob Scarborough, her son, is playing varsity ball, she is definitely a Spartans superfan.
Hummer serves as Touchdown Club president for West Hall. As club president, Hummer is responsible for a number of things.
"Every year Coach (Mike) Newton gives us a list of things he needs for the football program" she said.
Hummer’s job is to make those things happen, whether it be through rallying community support or raising funds.
This year, the club renovated the locker room and replaced old goal posts on the practice fields. The parents even pressure-washed and painted the stands of the football field.
The touchdown club starts raising funds for the next year in February.
Last year, it raised almost $75,000. Those funds go to everything from pregame meals for the players to buying headsets so coaches can communicate.
Hummer helps the team wherever she can.
For instance, both she and her husband, Rob, work in the medical field, and for the last three years both have provided the football players’ sports physicals.
"On big game weeks, we set up a table outside the lunchroom to sell spirit wear," she said.
Hummer says this not only makes money for the program, but also raises the morale and team spirit.
Plus, it lets her get to know the students better.
After a week of this much work, many of us would be exhausted by Friday night.
But not Hummer, who is known to be one of the most enthusiastic fans in the stands. Her trademark cowbell can even be heard on radio coverage of the game.
Said Rob Hummer: "She is the loudest fan out there, without a doubt."
