A Gainesville man was charged with using a gun with a filed-off identification number after a man was shot in the hand outside the J&J Foods on Jesse Jewell Parkway just before midnight Saturday.

Cpl. Kevin Holbrook with the Gainesville police said officers were called to the parking lot for a reported shooting.

“The initial report indicates that two taxi drivers had gotten into an argument over the two-way radio, or had gotten into some type of argument,” Holbrook said.

Holbrook said the argument between Rogelio Curiel, 59, of Gainesville and Eder Rauda-Bonilla, 27, of Gainesville got physical and Rauda-Bonilla was shot in the hand. He was taken by ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening; he was not listed at the hospital Monday afternoon.

Rauda-Bonilla when reached on the phone declined to comment.

Curiel was booked into the jail early Sunday morning and later bonded out, released Sunday night.

Holbrook said the investigation is continuing and other charges may be pending.

Curiel answered a phone call from The Times but could not speak English.

Curiel and Rauda-Bonilla are both taxi drivers for El Palmar, Holbrook said.
