A suspect was hospitalized Friday after being shot by a SWAT team in Buford, according to the Gwinnett County Police Department.

Police had responded about 4:15 p.m. to a neighbor’s report of shots being fired in a residence in the 4600 block of Gold Mine Drive, said Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith. After some time on the scene, the responding officers were fired on by the suspect.

The SWAT team was called and were also fired on upon their arrival about 6:05 p.m., Smith said. When the suspect appeared in a window about 6:30 p.m., a SWAT officer fired a single shot, injuring the suspect, identified as Jon Christopher Digiulio, 42.

Digiulio placed a 911 call about 6:42 p.m. stating he was injured and asking for help. The SWAT team was able to confirm he was injured and not armed at about 6:52 p.m.

Digiulio was transported to a local hospital by ambulance, Smith said. Digiulio will remain under guard until his release.

Officers learned Digiulio was wheelchair-bound and had been in a domestic dispute with his roommates the day before.
Smith said no officers were injured.
