An early Tuesday fire that destroyed a vacant home has been labeled suspicious, fire officials said.

Hall County Fire Marshal Scott Cagle said firefighters responded around 5:30 a.m. to the “fully involved” blaze on the 3300 block of Seymour Road, off White Sulphur Road in North Hall.

Cagle reported a bystander said there was no power in the house, and it had been vacant for about six months.

Meanwhile, the department is still gathering information to investigate a Sept. 7 fire on the 6200 block of Grant Ford Road in North Hall, also ruled suspicious.

The 15,000-square-foot home was vacant for several years, and had previous signs of vandalism, Cagle said.

The department is working with “numerous attorneys,” Cagle said, to resolve the problem of disputed ownership.

“All court documents say it wasn’t foreclosed on, which surprised the owner — he was of the understanding that it was foreclosed on,” Cagle said.

The more heavy-duty parts of the department’s investigation hinge on ownership, and the insurer, to cover machinery and manpower that could uncover clues beyond the debris, Cagle said.
