Authorities are investigating the death of a man whose body was recovered from Boggs Creek in Lumpkin County as a suicide.
Lumpkin County Deputy Coroner Ronald Fortner said the man, in his mid-30s, was camping with a friend overnight at a campsite in the Chattahoochee National Forest off U.S. 129. The friend found the man in Boggs Creek on Friday morning, Fortner said.
The man appeared to have been killed by a gunshot wound to the head, Fortner said. A handgun was found near his body.
All indications point to suicide, though the death remains under investigation by Lumpkin County sheriff’s officials, Fortner said.
