Dave Holland leads a class of kindergarten students Wednesday morning at McEver Arts Academy in Gainesville as they learn about storytelling. Holland is part of the school’s SmART StART program provided by Young Audiences of Atlanta, which allows him to explore storytelling and literacy through drumming.
Thirty kindergarten students banged their hands on drums and danced through their reading lessons Wednesday morning at McEver Arts Academy in Gainesville. The students are learning about reading and literacy through rhythm and movement as part of the Woodruff Arts Center Young Audience “smART stART” program. Dave Holland, world percussionist and rhythm facilitator, said that through kinesthetic learning the students are better able to create the connections that will help them develop their reading and comprehension skills.
