While other kids their age enjoy time by the pool or engage in other summertime fun, 88 students participating in the Steps to College program are spending their summer hitting the books as a part of an enrichment program at the Gainesville campus of the University of North Georgia. The 19-day program gives students a half-credit toward their high school diplomas and, for some, the ability to graduate on time with their peers. Participants are more likely to graduate high school and college, according to program co-director Harriett Allison.
