Storm knocks down trees in North Hall County

A passing thunderstorm knocked down trees and caused some damage Saturday afternoon in northeast Hall County.

Hall County Fire Chief David Kimbrell said some trees were down along Belton Bridge Road, and that a porch roof had been blown off.

Kimbrell said some trees down on power lines but no lines were down. No power outages have been reported in the area.

The passing storm hit late in the afternoon and cooled temperatures considerably into the low 80s.

Storms overnight dropped 1.7 inches of rain according to the National Weather Service recording station at Gainesville's Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport.

The chance of storms continues overnight, with lows dropping into the upper 60s. Sunday brings a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms between 2-8 p.m. with a high near 93. Clear skies and sunny, hot weather is forecast to return Monday.
