State DOT suspends some work for tax-free shoppers

The Georgia Department of Transportation has suspended lane closures near shopping malls to accommodate back-to-school shopping traffic this weekend.

Tax-free weekend in the state is scheduled today and Saturday, and lane closures on interstates and major highways within 5 miles of major shopping areas will be suspended from 8 a.m. today through 10 p.m. Saturday.

Shoppers can purchase certain clothing, computers and accessories tax-free both days. For more information on which items will be tax-free, visit etax.dor.ga.gov.
