A Cumming man has been named the Georgia Department of Transportation’s area engineer for Dawson, Forsyth and Hall counties.

Matt Needham will be responsible for all construction and maintenance activities on interstates and state routes throughout those counties.

Needham began working with the DOT in 2002 as part of the Transportation Engineering Associates Training Program.

In March 2004, he was promoted to construction project engineer, and in 2007, he became assistant area engineer for construction for Gwinnett and Barrow counties.

Needham graduated from Georgia Tech in 2002 with a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering.

"I am confident he is the right person for this job," said District Engineer Russell McMurry. "With his leadership and work ethic, he is an asset to the citizens of Georgia and will work diligently to improve our transportation system."
