Getting around a major South Hall traffic artery starting Monday, July 15, could be a little tricky for area motorists.
JM Turk Road at Martin Road in South Hall is set to close for about a week, so a new roundabout can be completed before the 2019-20 school year starts.
Students go back to classes Aug. 7. Teachers return Aug. 1.
“Traffic will have to detour to avoid the intersection during this (road closure),” said Ken Rearden, Hall County’s public works and utilities director in an email to area residents.
Detour roads are Falcon Parkway/Ga. 13, Hog Mountain Road, Cash Road, Union Church Road and Winder Highway/Ga. 53.
Signs will go up in the area advising motorists of the closure, and a sign will be posted at Hall County’s Mulberry Creek Park and Community Center at 4491 JM Turk Road, Rearden said.
“While we hate to disrupt traffic, this closure is necessary to get this project back on schedule following a season of heavy rains,” he said. “Thank you for your continued patience as we make improvements to this area.”
The intersection improvements are going on as, just down the street, crews are working on Martin Road at Falcon Parkway Parkway/Ga. 13. Those fixes, which include new lanes, are part of the new Exit 14 interchange off Interstate 985. That work is set to be completed Aug. 31.
