Though snow was falling in downtown Gainesville this evening, more rain than winter weather is expected overnight in Hall County. In the northern counties, though, the National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory through 8 a.m. Friday that includes Dawson, Lumpkin, Towns, Union and White counties. Air temperatures flirting with the freezing mark could result in "some light accumulations of sleet and snow" in those areas, according to the advisory. A mix of rain, sleet and snow will remain possible for much of North Georgia, but little accumulation is expected. In Hall, most of the precipitation will be rain, as much as 2 inches through Saturday morning. Motorists should be aware of possible slippery conditions, especially on bridges.
