A proposed soccer and event facility on Burton Circle near Barrett Road in Gainesville will go before the Hall County Board of Commissioners on Thursday, June 14.
Sergio Felix of Oakwood is requesting to rezone a lot at 2925 Burton Circle to build a recreational facility with an indoor soccer venue and event center, as well as lighted outdoor soccer fields. The approximately 57-acre property is near residential areas, including the Silver Ridge subdivision.
The Hall County Planning Commission recommended denying the request at its May 21 meeting, where residents expressed concerns about traffic. The Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing and vote on the request on Thursday.
Felix said on May 21 that fields at the facility would be rented to sports leagues. There is a need for an indoor soccer facility in Hall County, he said, and the 9,600-square foot indoor soccer field and event space he is proposing would have an area that could be rented out for events such as birthday parties. There would not be concerts held at the space, and the facility would not be open past 8 p.m. or 9 p.m., Felix said at the meeting.
The proposed development is in the center of a wooded lot and would have natural buffers between the recreational area and surrounding homes, according to the planning staff report for the project.
The Hall County Board of Commissioners will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Hall County Government Center, 2875 Browns Bridge Road in Gainesville.
