Previous story:

The new Gainesville elected mayor post drew two more candidates Tuesday during the second day of qualifying.

Rose Johnson, a small-business owner who had previously announced her intentions, filed her paperwork, along with Debra Harkrider, a businesswoman and nurse. They join Danny Dunagan and Charles Alvarez in the race. The new position will be in addition to a council of five who represent five wards.

Others who qualified Monday for that council include Sam Couvillon, an insurance broker, for Ward 1, and incumbent George Wangemann for Ward 4. Ward 1 was vacated by Dunagan.

In Flowery Branch, Chris Fetterman, a former city councilman, qualified Tuesday for City Council Post 5, currently held by Tara Richards.

Other hopefuls in Flowery Branch, who qualified Monday, are Mike Miller for mayor, Fred Richards for Post 3 and Joe Anglin for Post 4.

In the small town of Gillsville, incumbents Roy Turpin and Jim Butler qualified Tuesday for City Council Posts 1 and 2, respectively. The position of mayor also is open.

Also on Tuesday, Delores Diaz qualified for Gainesville Board of Education Ward 4. Brett Mercer qualified Monday for Ward 1 on the board.

In Oakwood, incumbents Lamar Scroggs, Sam Evans and Ron McFarland qualified Monday for mayor, Post 1 and Post 2, respectively. No one qualified Tuesday.

Also on Monday, incumbent James Nix qualified for Clermont mayor and incumbent Milton Turner for Lula mayor as well as incumbents Vicky Chambers and Mordecai Wilson for Lula City Council Wards 2 and 3, respectively.

Qualifying ends today for most cities and goes through Friday for Clermont and Gillsville. Qualifying fees vary by post depending on the salary for the job.

Correction: Harkrider qualified late Tuesday and her name was not included in an earlier version of this story.
