Separate wrecks kill man, woman

Two people died Thursday night from injuries sustained in separate wrecks.

A man driving a motorcycle died after being involved in a wreck with another vehicle Thursday east of Cleveland near the intersection of Ga. 115 and Duncan Bridge Road, according to White County authorities.

Daniel Brad Garland, 25, of Cleveland died Thursday night after being airlifted to Gwinnett Medical Center, according to White County Coroner Ricky Barrett.

The White County Fire Department was dispatched at 6:20 p.m. to the scene of the wreck, which happened in front of Leaf Grocery, according to Ana Newberry, public information officer for the White County Fire Department.

Barrett said though Garland was wearing a helmet, he died from sustaining head injuries.

In a separate wreck, Nancy Hobgood, 56, of Gainesville died Thursday night at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, according to Hall County Coroner Marion Merck. Hobgood was one of three people injured in a two-car wreck Thursday afternoon near Clermont on Cleveland Highway south of Ga. 52. Troopers responded to the wreck at 1:30 p.m.

Two other people involved in the wreck were taken by ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, authorities said.

The Georgia State Patrol Post in Gainesville is investigating both wrecks.
