Sen. Butch Miller was honored Wednesday by the Association County Commissioners of Georgia for his efforts this year to improve policy that affects county operations and infrastructure.
Miller’s work on two bills in particular was noted in his selection to receive the 2014 Legislative Service Award.
Miller was one of the sponsors of Senate Bill 297 and sponsored House Bill 310 in the Senate.
Senate Bill 297 exempts local candidates from having to file campaign disclosure reports if they have raise and spend less than $2,500 in an election.
House Bill 310 aligned the state and local elections calendar with the court-ordered federal elections calendar, preventing counties from putting on and funding two separate elections. It also addressed how candidates are notified about fines they owe for late reporting of campaign finances.
