Georgia’s First Lady Sandra Deal hit a milestone in Oakwood on Friday when she completed her 1,000th school visit since Gov. Nathan Deal took office in 2011.
Sandra Deal, a former teacher and Gainesville native, has visited in all 159 Georgia counties and all 181 public school districts.
On Friday, she stopped at three schools in Hall County, with The Academy Child Development Center in Oakwood being her 1,000th visit. Earlier in the day, she had been to Mundy Mill Academy and Chicopee Woods Elementary School in Gainesville.
“My goal is to encourage students to enjoy reading so that they will be prepared for a lifetime of learning,” Sandra Deal said in a statement. “Reading is the gift that keeps on giving and education is essential for all children to succeed in their pursuits.”
