Safe Kids Gainesville-Hall County celebrated its work this past year and announced a number of awards at its annual banquet Tuesday morning at Riverbend Baptist Church.“In the last year, Safe Kids members provided an impressive 315 programs and events in the community, reaching an estimated 51,450 children, family members, teachers and caregivers,” said Capt. Scott Cagle with Hall County Fire Services. More than 3,000 safety devices — such as bike helmets, smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors, child safety seats and life jackets — were distributed, he added.The awards given out were as follows:- Community Agency of the Year: Hall County Sheriff’s Office- Teacher of the Year: Tasha Wright, First Presbyterian Church Child Care Center- Tim Peebles Volunteer of the Year: Lt. David Stringer, Gainesville Fire Department, and Officer Griggs Wall, Gainesville Police Department“It is through the work of local coalitions like yours that countless lives have been saved,” said Daniel Orzechowski, senior manager with the U.S. Coalition Network and keynote speaker for the event. “Thank you for raising awareness and giving your time to impact the lives of others.”
