Riverside Military Academy is searching for a new president after Col. William J. Gallagher resigned the position effectively immediately on Tuesday, May 8.
The announcement was made in a press release after 5 p.m. Tuesday by the academy’s Board of Trustees, and school officials could not be reached for comment after business hours.
A nationwide search will begin immediately, according to the release.
Lt. Col. James Spivey, Commandant, will serve as interim president.
Gallagher was named president in June 2016. He succeeded Col. James H. Benson, who served as president from 2009-2016.
“We wish Col. Gallagher the best in his future endeavors,” Board of Trustees Chairman Rusty Griffin said in a statement. “Riverside is on a mission to become the top military school in the country, and our board will now be focused on finding a new leader to continue to guide us toward that end goal.”
Riverside’s 111th commencement will be held this Saturday, May 12, at which time 109 cadets will receive diplomas. The class of 2018 earned more than $3.7 million in merit scholarships.
