Repaving work has begun on Green Street and E.E. Butler Parkway in a project that also includes repaving on Jesse Jewell Parkway.

Crews are working from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Sunday through Thursday each week, weather permitting.

“We’re at the mercy of the thunderstorms,” said Steve Jones, who is serving as a consultant to the Georgia Department of Transportation on the project.

Work includes patching, milling down and building back up the pavement on Green Street and E.E. Butler Parkway from the middle of Gainesville all the way down to Monroe Drive, which is just on the south side of Interstate 985, in both directions.

The same work will be done on Jesse Jewell between E.E. Butler and Queen City parkways.

Jones said the project will likely have crews working for a couple of months.

Contractor Pittman Construction is handling the work for the DOT. The project began June 26.
