A retirement reception is being held to honor a pair of retiring longtime Gainesville City Council members and the city’s longtime attorney.

The event set for 3-6 p.m. Wednesday at the Brenau Downtown Center’s Manhattan Gallery will recognize the work of outgoing council members Myrtle Figueras and Bob Hamrick and city attorney James “Bubba” Palmour.

Figueras, who has represented Ward 3 since 1996, announced her intention to retire in June, and Hamrick, who has been on the Council for nearly five decades, announced his retirement in July. Palmour, who has served the city continuously since 1987, said in July he would retire at year’s end.

In lieu of gifts, donations will be accepted for the Myrtle Figueras Scholarship Fund, the Salvation Army and the Humane Society of Northeast Georgia.
