Rabies case involving skunk confirmed in Lula

Hall County confirmed its fourth case of rabies this year on Friday after a rabid skunk came in contact with a dog in Lula.

The contact occurred in the 5300 block of Latty Road. The skunk was sent to the Georgia Public Health Lab-Virology Section in Decatur and confirmed Wednesday as rabid.

Positive alert signs will be posted in the area where the rabid skunk was located. Residents who see an animal acting abnormally are asked to contact Hall County Animal Services at 770-531-6830 or during nonworking hours call Hall County Dispatch at 770-536-8812.

Animal owners can vaccinate their pets for rabies at the Hall County Animal Shelter for $10 Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 1688 Barber Road, Gainesville.
