Hall County is in the process of procuring the land for what could become Hall County Fire Services Station 17, which would put Lake Lanier Islands within five miles of a fire station.

The proposed location is 5711 and 5719 Holiday Road in Buford, said Hall County spokeswoman Katie Crumley.

“We wanted to pick a location that would take into consideration the calls for service in the location, because we try to get within five miles of either a home or a business to not affect the (Insurance Services Office) rating,” said assistant county administrator Marty Nix

The current ISO rating for Hall County, which affects homeowners’ insurance premiums, is a 2 on a scale from 1 to 10, with 1 being the highest.

“Currently right now, Lanier Islands resort, that is not within a five-mile radius, so by putting that location in that general area on Holiday Road, we’re able to get that facility within five miles of a fire station,” Nix said, adding it would also put a station close to Interstate 985 and the surrounding area.

Nix said the county is still in negotiations with the owner regarding the roughly 3.5 acres of land, which previously had a restaurant and a service station.

“I’m guessing, but typically you’re looking at maybe a two-year period before we even get the station opened,” Nix said.
