Forty-seven local Vietnam veterans will be honored Thursday at a dinner and presentation in Oakwood.

Earlier this year, Gov. Nathan Deal unveiled the Certificate of Honor Program to recognize the state’s Vietnam War veterans.

The local presentation will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Disabled American Veterans chapter 17 meeting, 4080 Mundy Mill Road in Oakwood (Legacy Link building).

State Sen. Butch Miller, R-Gainesville, will preside, and Georgia Department of Veterans Services Manager Cynthia Hayes will be giving out commemorative pins.

Georgia is home to more than 234,000 Vietnam War veterans, according to state officials.
