The renaming of the Lula post office in honor of Pfc. Johnathon Millican will formally take place at 10 a.m. today at the facility on McLeod Street. The resolution honoring Millican was introduced last year by U.S. Rep. Nathan Deal, R-Gainesville, who is scheduled to attend today’s ceremony.
Millican was killed Jan. 20, 2007, in an attack on a compound in Karbala, 50 miles south of Baghdad. During an attack by terrorists on a U.S. Compound, Millican dove on a grenade, saving the lives of other soldiers. His family will be presented with the Silver Star, which was awarded to Millican posthumously.
The resolution that authorized the naming of the post office for Millican was approved this year by Congress and was signed into law by President Bush.
