About four miles of the northbound section of Interstate 985 will completely close for one night beginning at 9 p.m. Thursday at the I-985/I-85 split east of Suwanee.

The closure is needed while construction crews transport and install bridge beams needed for the Georgia Express Lane extension on I-85, the Georgia Department of Transportation announced Monday.

A single northbound lane will close at 9 p.m. on Thursday, and it will become a double lane closure at 11 p.m. A detour will be marked while the closure remains in effect until 5 a.m. Friday.

The detour is 6 miles long and has drivers take I-85 to Exit 115, following Ga. 20/Buford Drive Northeast back into I-985.
