A Lanier Federal Credit Union employee is accused of altering records to steal $40,000, according to police.

Teresa Lynn Bruce, 50, of Flowery Branch was booked in Monday at the Hall County Jail on charges of first-degree forgery, ID theft and theft by taking, according to the jail log. She has since been released.

Oakwood Police said the department was contacted in March regarding irregularities discovered after an audit.

“The investigation revealed an employee of the credit union, Teresa Bruce, … was altering and manipulating credit union records in order to take money from the credit union,” Sgt. Todd Templeton wrote in an email.

Police said the alleged thefts happened in early 2016 but were discovered this year.

“The total amount of the theft was in excess of $40,000,” Templeton said.

An attempt to reach Bruce for comment was unsuccessful.
