A man was run over by a train he was trying to jump aboard Wednesday on Athens Street, police said.

Gainesville police Lt. Brian Kelly said medics called a helicopter in to fly the victim to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. The 26-year-old white male’s name and condition were not available. The man’s condition was not known.

Kelly said authorities were called to the train tracks on Athens Street near Blaze Recycling shortly after 3 p.m. Wednesday. Police determined that the man, while trying to jump on a moving train, lost his grip, fell under and was run over, Kelly said.

No more information about the incident was available Wednesday night.
