A Gwinnett County teen will be charged with harassing communications after a threat to “shoot up” the Mall of Georgia, police said.
Gwinnett County Police said a 16-year-old boy would be charged after consulting with the district attorney. Police did not identify the teenager.
“After he is served with the charges, the suspect will remain in the custody of his parents,” Cpl. Michele Pihera wrote in an email.
Police said Tuesday the threat originated in an online gaming room about a number of people being shot at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Buford mall.
Authorities later determined the mall was not in “any immediate danger” and contacted the suspect.
