Police: Suspect in $25,000 bank theft captured
01112018 Oakwood
This man is suspected of stealing $25,000 from another person's bank account by withdrawing money at Hall County bank branches.

A Gainesville man was taken into custody Friday afternoon after allegedly withdrawing $25,000 from various Hall County bank branches, police said.

Investigators discovered Evan Michael Tubbs on Oliver Road, where investigators had arrest warrants for multiple counts of identity theft and felony theft by taking.

Tubbs visited three Bank of America branches in Oakwood and Gainesville, hitting two branches twice on the same day, according to Oakwood Police Sgt. Todd Templeton. The case was forwarded to Oakwood from Texas, where the account holder lives.

Tubbs is accused of withdrawing $5,000 from the victim’s account on each bank visit.

“The investigation is ongoing to determine how Tubbs obtained the victim’s bank account information,” Templeton wrote.

Templeton said the department received an “abundance of tips” after Crime Stoppers Greater Atlanta offered a reward up to $2,000 for information.

Oakwood and Gainesville Police collaborated on the case.
