Authorities are searching for a man who robbed the Wells Fargo bank at 1925 Jesse Jewell Parkway on Wednesday morning.

A black man with a mustache and wearing a red and black checkered hat walked into the bank in New Holland, pulled out a weapon and handed a note to a teller demanding money, Gainesville Police spokesman Kevin Holbrook said.

The man was also wearing a blue jacket and gray University of Georgia sweatshirt, as seen in bank surveillance footage. He then ran out of the bank with an unknown amount of money.

“It is believed the suspect fled the area in a vehicle,” Holbrook said in an email.

No one was injured in the 9:30 a.m. incident.

Police put up yellow crime tape around the bank and were telling customers the bank was closed for the day.

“We will have a heavy police presence in the New Holland area,” Holbrook said.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office and Georgia State Patrol also responded.

Riverbend and White Sulphur elementary schools were in a soft lockdown for part of the morning, with the doors locked, closer monitoring of hallways and indoor activities running as usual, before the lockdown was lifted for both schools about 11:35 a.m.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911.
