Safe Kids Gainesville/Hall County and the Gainesville Police Department are hosting Operation Pill Drop on Saturday.

The event seeks to combat what Safe Kids calls the “growing problem” of “poisoning from prescription medication” through accidental misuse or abuse.

Citizens can bring their unused, unwanted and expired medicine to the Gainesville Police Department at 715 Queen City Parkway from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Law enforcement will properly dispose of the drugs.

The groups will not be accepting illegal drugs, intravenous solutions and hypodermic needles.

Free medication lock boxes will be given away to those who drop off medicine, one per household while supplies last.
