Both drivers in a fatal wreck Friday night are believed to have been driving drunk, authorities said.

Motorcyclist Ricky Lee Martin, 62, of Gainesville was killed in the 11 p.m. collision Friday on E.E. Butler Parkway at Monroe Drive .

“He failed to yield the right of way to the oncoming Ford Expedition,” said Gainesville police spokesman Cpl. Kevin Holbrook.

Martin was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center where he later died.

The driver of the Expedition, whose name hasn’t been made available, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence.

Holbrook said the drivers were following safety precautions, including a helmet for the motorcyclist and seatbelt for the Expedition driver.
