Plans advance for downtown Gainesville condos

Parkside on the Square, a planned mixed-use development, will feature 15,000 square feet of street level retail and restaurant space on the downtown Gainesville square.

Prospective buyers of luxury condos to be built on the square in downtown Gainesville are encouraged to get on the waiting list as design plans for the $16 million development near completion.

To date, almost 30 potential buyers have put down a required $2,000 deposit to get on the waiting list, Bev Knight, a real estate agent selling the units, told The Times this week.

The mixed-use development featuring 15,000 square feet of street level retail and restaurant space, and approximately 33 condominium residences recently got its official name: Parkside on the Square, courtesy of a contest organized by Knight.

“Dozens of people participated and hundreds of names were submitted,” Knight said.

Local entrepreneur Julie Graves won $500 for submitting the winning entry.

Knight said designers are on the fourth generation of floor plans for 28 “luxury” units and five “ultra-luxury” penthouse units.

“Floor plans should be released in the next few months,” Knight said.

The standard units are expected to be around 1700 square feet with two bedrooms, an office, open floor plans and luxury finishes, Knight added. She said each unit comes with its own covered patio and a view of the square.

Pricing is still in the works, but the standard units are expected to be in the high $300,000 range, Knight said.

Groundbreaking is expected in the first quarter of 2018.
